ADVENTURE STORY -1 (The Escape)

    The Escape

Daniel Westside... is screwed. He’s been sitting in this tiny, smelly jail cell for almost 4 years now, and he’s had just about enough. “Hey Danny,” he hears.

“Whaddya want Eddie?”
“What’s the time?”
“How would I know, ask a guard.”
“Whatever.”

Eddie is Daniel’s friend, because they’ve been in nextdoor cells for a while, Eddie was the only robot in the jail, other than the guards.

“Edward Falcon,” says a robotic guard, with shiny brass platings and a rectangular head, “convicted for attempted assassination of our Lord the D.I.E.sector, along with extreme history of petty crime, disassembling of other robots, and decapitating 4 of the D.I.E.sector’s guards, somebody, has posted your bail.

“Whatever, there’s no way I’m getting outta here anyway.”
“Mr.Falcon, you must come with me, it’s the law.”
“Fine!”
The guard unlocks his cell while a few other guards come with handcuffs. Daniel watches as Edward is thrust out of his cell and he is cuffed, he is violently thrown forward, as he begins to walk along, only partly cooperating.

A few hours later Daniel gets food and a hologram newspaper, and begins to eat his mush, which still tastes like metal (Daniel still thinks he's gonna get sick), as he glances at the newspaper, “May 21, 2116, Edward Falcon, extreme terrorist’s bail posted.” Daniel hates that, Eddie is not a terrorist, he just doesn’t like the system, so he stands up for humans, even though he isn’t one. If anything, he’s the noble one.

Eddie gets back 2 days later, he is thrown back in the cell, his head slams into a bar and sparks fly everywhere. “I’m back bud.” Eddie mumbles, barely comprehensible, his voicemaker dented. Daniel motions Eddie to come closer
“We’ve gotta get outta here at some point,” he whispers.

The next day Daniel and Eddie were sitting in their cells, when a guard comes by doing daily scans, ways to make sure everybody’s still there, making sure that there are no decoys or hiding prisoners, etc.
“Daniel Westside, recognized, thrown in jail by the Great D.I.E.sector for unknown reasons.”

As he moves on to the neighboring cells, Daniel thinks about why he is there. His father was a conspiracy theorist, one who believed that Earth was flat. He was killed in the war and Daniel continued his research in secret.

When the D.I.E.sector discovered it, Daniel was thrown in jail. Daniel looks out the window to the dark, somber, hellish world, and thinks it might be better in here than out there, then he snaps all those thoughts out of his head, and realizes that this is the most miserable place on Earth, he has to get out.

Later that day, Daniel’s food was given to him by a robot, but she didn’t seem like a robot, she had feelings, and she felt bad for Daniel, her voice was real and humane, she wasn’t a robot, she was a cyborg, half human, and she was gonna help them escape.

Daniel gets up from his rickety metal bed and yawns, when he looks out the bars, he sees that it is still dark, just the time he wants. He looks around and sees Eddie awake with the cyborg, “What’s your name?” he whispers.
“I was never given one. The others call me Scar though.”
“How about Charlotte… Scar.” Suggested Eddie.
“I like that name, Charlotte.” She replied, robotically.
“Why are you helping us?” Asks Daniel.
“I was assigned this job, I never wanted it, I’m part human, I don’t belong here, don’t think you guys are the first prisoners I’ve saved.”
“Ok guys, enough, we’re getting outta here or not?” Eddie remarks.
“Lead the way.”

Charlotte pulls out some kind of key, and she unlocks their cells, they quietly walk down the halls, Charlotte leading the way. The place is terrifying with the lights off, Daniel gets shivers as he walks through. Charlotte has an installed map of the jail, telling them where the guards are, avoiding them at all costs. A few awoken prisoners notice them, but they keep quiet.
“Where you think you’re going?” The three turn around to see a tough looking guard -- then all havoc breaks loose.

The reaction is immediate, the robot stuns Eddie, who falls to the ground as Charlotte swings around with her metal arm and knocks the guard away, Daniel then runs over to the guard as he stands up, and grabs his weapon, some kind of gun. He shoots the robot, and it is blasted all the way down the corridor, it doesn’t stand back up.
As Daniel admires the guard’s gun, Charlotte is trying to fix Eddie’s chip, “We have to move,” gasps Charlotte, ”more guards will be here soon, after that ruckus.”
Suddenly, Charlotte reaches into Eddie’s system, and he wakes up.

“Let’s get outta here.” Daniel says.
They all stand up and start running, when they turn a passage and find a pack of guards waiting.
“Get em,” says their leader.
Daniel doesn’t hesitate, they all start to pull out their guns, but Daniel is faster, he pulls his trigger and all the guards are blasted back.
“I gotta get one of those,” says Eddie.
“Grab their guns, move out.”

As they run down the hall, they see prisoners, screaming, begging to let them out: there’s no time. They turn the hall and more are there, this time with pistols and shields, Charlotte blasts one of them, he blocks the blast with his shield, and all the energy is absorbed.
“We have to get behind them!” she yells.
They are running back, dodging fire behind them, their pistols seem weaker than the big blaster guns.
“I’ll cover for you!” says Eddie, he then turns around and shoots at them, their shields absorbing each blast. Charlotte and Daniel stay close to the cells, running, as the guards shoot at Eddie.
“Hang in there bud!”

Daniel jumps over one guard, and shoots him in the back, just like all the others, he goes flying down the hall, his shield and pistol land on the floor. Daniel looks over at Eddie, Charlotte is behind the guards, half of them are on her, turned around, using their shields, the other 3 are on Eddie, still fighting, thank god he doesn’t get tired. Daniel watches as a guard raises his gun, Eddie still unaware of him.
“Eddie!” yells Daniel, as he throws the guard’s shield to him.
Eddie barely catches the shield, and tries to block the blast -- but he isn’t fast enough.

“NO!” Screams Daniel, he runs over and grabs onto the killer’s back, snatches his gun and shoots the guard in the face. Rid with insanity, he shoots every guard, mercilessly. He sees a window, he's outnumbered, he shoots down the bars with the weapon, squeezes through the gap, and he jumps out.

He lands hard on the soily ground, his feet filled with pain, he looks up, it was a long fall. And then he realizes what he just did. He just ditched the guard who gave up everything to help him, and he just left his best friend’s dead body. He remembers what it looks like, Eddie lying there, sparking, smoking, unfixable, that body would be disassembled for parts, his best friend is gone.

He has to move, he runs away, over the the shore, he sees a city, he remembers his history lessons as a young boy, that city went by San Francisco, this jail was once called, Alcatraz. He looks at the city, he estimates a swim of say, 4 miles, give or take. He knows he can’t swim that. He looks at his gun, and he thinks about what he could use, he has no idea. Then, he tries to take apart the gun, desperately he tries, he can’t do it.

“That’s him! GET HIM!!” Daniel hears.
He turns around to see guards, a pack of them, he fires and fires, they’re all blown back, once again.
“Jeez, this place needs better guards.”
He runs forth and sees their bodies, he smirks, he has an idea.

It’s done, it’s finally done, he looks at his creation, he had used his gun to weld together their parts, the metal felt hot as the sun, he had made a sturdy metal raft, it’s time to test it out.
He throws the raft down on the water, miraculously, it floats, he jumps on, and it somehow stays up. A strong gust of wind pushes him away, it’s too late now, he decides, he can no longer turn back. Another wave of guards come, they see his gun and some spare parts there. Daniel is gone, they look around, and in the distance, they see Daniel, waving his hand. He’s free.
